Each year a slew of new talent enters the National Hockey League threatening to dethrone the veteran stars. And each year, Nicklas Lidstrom has shown that he can withstand the onslaught to defend his position as one of the best players on the ice. After this season wrapped up for the Detroit Red Wings, though, Lidstrom revealed that he was contemplating hanging up his skates after 19 seasons in the league.
Fans’ fears were assuaged, though, when it was revealed that Lidstrom has recently decided to return to the Red Wings to compete in his 20th season. He is only signing to a one-year contract, the details of which have yet to be revealed.
Lidstrom has won nearly every award in hockey, and he will likely win more before it is all said and done. Last season, he shined by amassing 16 goals and 46 assists in 82 games. He has already earned himself a place in the Red Wings’ record books and is chasing numerous records, including games played, assists, points and goals.
