Titans Promote Munchak

The Tennessee Titans have promoted offensive line coach Mike Munchak to head coach after interviewing him and other candidates.  Titans owner Bud Adams called it a special day for the franchise.  “Mike has been successful at everything he has been associated with at our franchise and I have no reason to believe that he won’t be successful as our head coach,” Adams said in a released statement. “He earned Hall of Fame distinction as a player and yearly he has been one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL.  He understands where we have been and knows where we need to go.”

The Titans parted ways with longtime coach Jeff Fisher last week, opening up the head coaching position.  Munchak had been the offensive line coach since 1997.  The Titans now turn their attention to player personnel, where there is some uncertainty at the quarterback position.  Vince Young is expected to be traded and it is unknown if Kerry Collins will be back.  The Titans are a team that could use the draft, and perhaps their eighth overall pick, to select a signal caller to develop.  Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert is considered to be the top quarterback prospect in the 2011 Draft class.
