CBA Talks Extended
March 4, 2011The deadline to complete negotiations between the NFL owners and the NFL players union regarding a new collective bargaining agreement was extended yesterday, giving the two sides 24 extra hours to try to work out a deal. However, there is speculation that this extension is merely functioning as a timeframe to lay out a longer extension period. “If we can make the kind of progress that you needed to make to have a further extension, that’s where we’d be looking,” NFL lead negotiator Jeff Pash told the media yesterday. ”Hopefully, we can make some progress and keep this thing going. That’s obviously in everybody’s interest. It’s been our goal all along and we’re going to just keep at it.”

Payton Not Looking For Job in Dallas
February 11, 2011The Dallas Cowboys have made plenty of coaching changes this offseason, but a move by another NFL coach’s move sent waves through the league. New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton has decided to keep his job at the helm in New Orleans but move his family to Dallas. Moving to Dallas sparked rumors that he is contemplating a coaching move as well, but Payton has reiterated he aims to remain with the Saints.

Jets Deny Titans Interview with Callahan
February 11, 2011The Tennessee Titans won’t get the chance to interview Bill Callahan for their open offensive coordinator position, as the New York Jets have denied the Titans’ request to meet with their assistant head coach. Callahan, still under contract with the Jets, won’t be allowed to interview for the job with the Titans, where he would have potentially replaced Mike Heimerdinger. Instead, Callahan will continue his tenure with the Jets, where he is also the run game coordinator.

Jimmy Johnson Sings Praises of Garrett
February 10, 2011A few names in the National Football League are among the short list of legends. One of the names on that list is Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson coached the Cowboys from 1989-1993, leading the team to two Super Bowl Championships in that time. He went on to coach the Miami Dolphins before giving up coaching to become an analyst on television.

Jets Rock the Boat by Signing New Kicker
February 10, 2011New York Jets placekicker Nick Folk is up for free agency this offseason, and the Jets are taking no chances at losing him without first finding a replacement. Rex Ryan and the Jets have found some potential competition for Folk in UFL standout Nick Novak, signing the former Florida Tusker to their roster this week.

Bills Could Dictate Draft
February 10, 2011The Buffalo Bills could have a major effect on the 2011 NFL Draft. With the third overall pick, Buffalo could hold the key to how the rest of the Top 10 picks unfold. “Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers are top candidates,” writes ESPN’s Tim Graham. ”Gabbert should be on the board when the Bills pick. Auburn quarterback Cam Newton almost certainly will be available. The two teams drafting ahead of the Bills, the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, aren’t expected to take a quarterback.”

Jets’ Revis Lobbies for Ochocinco
February 9, 2011Darrelle Revis isn’t done with his outspoken antics after demanding over the weekend that the Jets need to re-sign Antonio Cromartie. He’s now moved on to the wide receiver position, lobbying to get Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco suited up in green and white next season. Jets fans know that when Revis talks, people listen, but could No. 85 really be headed to New York?

Cowboys Hire New Defensive Line Coach
February 9, 2011The Dallas Cowboys have been making many chances this offseason, starting with making Jason Garrett their new head coach. Because of the status of a new collective bargaining agreement (or lack thereof), the Cowboys haven’t made many roster moves as of yet, but they have continued to shuffle and add new names to their coaching staff.

Early XLVI Favorites
February 9, 2011The NFL speculation never quits, and neither does ESPN’s John Clayton, who has already laid out his favorites for next year’s Super Bowl, aside from the two teams that played in XLV. Clayton notes the Patriots as his first team, but makes sure to point out that Tom Brady’s last three playoff performances have been underwhelming, dating back to the Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants. He also talks offseason. “The offensive line has shown the wear and tear from age and needs serious upgrades,” Clayton writes. ”The front office needs to patch up the relationship with guard Logan Mankins and get him a long-term deal. With two picks in each of the first three rounds, the Patriots can continue their youth movement and do it with quality.”

Titans Promote Munchak
February 8, 2011The Tennessee Titans have promoted offensive line coach Mike Munchak to head coach after interviewing him and other candidates. Titans owner Bud Adams called it a special day for the franchise. “Mike has been successful at everything he has been associated with at our franchise and I have no reason to believe that he won’t be successful as our head coach,” Adams said in a released statement. “He earned Hall of Fame distinction as a player and yearly he has been one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL. He understands where we have been and knows where we need to go.”
