Turnovers Doom AFC in Pro Bowl

Despite being the overall stronger conference, the AFC didn’t prove it on the field yesterday during the annual Pro Bowl.  Without a chance to practice much with their teammates, neither side looked particularly sharp and the AFC ended up dropping the game 55-41.  The game started with the AFC getting off to a brutal start.  Replacing Tom Brady, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was the starting signal caller for the AFC, though he threw two interceptions, one of which was taken back the other way for six.  Rivers looked out of sync, as did both Peyton Manning and Matt Cassel, who also threw interceptions in the first half.

Rivers did lead somewhat of a comeback, however, as he threw two touchdowns in the third quarter after the AFC trailed 42-7 at halftime.  Jamaal Charles and Reggie Wayne both had productive days for the AFC, topping off seasons in which they were among the most productive players in the entire league.  On the other side, the NFC was led by Matt Ryan, DeAngelo Hall and Adrian Peterson, who all had big days and helped them get out to a big lead in the first half.  In total, the NFC picked off the AFC five times in total in a sloppy overall game, which once again is a fairly lackluster precursor to the upcoming Super Bowl.
