With the Super Bowl still a ways a way due to the extra week off, fans and players have had plenty of time to sit and contemplate the conclusion of the season. The Chargers certainly had dreams of playing for the title in Dallas, but, as it turns out, they’ll have to watch along with the rest of the world as the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers square off in the new, monstrous field in Jerry Jones’ backyard. The Packers and Steelers figure to be very close in terms of the betting line once kickoff time comes around and early lines had the Packers favored by three points.
Of course, much of this is due to the phenomenal play of Aaron Rodgers, who has risen to the level of superstardom over the past month. Rodgers has always had plenty of talent, for those who have paid attention to real football as well as fantasy, but he’s finally pulled it together and started to win the big games, which ultimately is the litmus test for quarterbacks. On the other side of the field, Ben Roethlisberger has been here before and is looking for his third Super Bowl ring already in his young career, which would also give head coach Mike Tomlin his second ring in just a few seasons. So far, the ticket prices are extremely high – even higher than usual – and the Super Bowl appears to be shaping up as a potential classic between two old and well-respected franchises.
