Mankins Hammers Out Deal

There are many stars that are a part of the New England Patriots, which often makes the salary cap a difficult thing for the Patriots. One way to help with those numbers is by renegotiating contracts. The Patriots did just that recently with All-Pro guard Logan Mankins.

Mankins gave up some of his base salary in order to secure a long-term contract with the Patriots. Mankins signed a six-year deal. To make room for the contract, it took another veteran, and a new Patriot, to restructure his deal. According to NFL.com, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth changed his contract in order to pay For Mankins’ new contract. Before the deal, Haynesworth was set to earn a base salary of $5.4 million in 2011, and now his base salary is $1.5 million. More incentives were added to the deal, though, allowing Haynesworth to make up that number by playing frequently.

Mankins has been with the Patriots since he joined the league in 2005. He has been a consistent starter besides missing half of the season last season because of a contract dispute. Be there to cheer him and other Patriots on by getting New England Patriots tickets from StubHub.
