The New England Patriots are easily one of the most deliberate teams in the National Football League. Every decision by the Patriots appears to be well thought out and intentional, and that is especially true about new talent added to the Patriots’ roster.
One of the latest names to be added is defensive lineman Shaun Ellis. Ellis was a longtime player for the Patriots’ rival New York Jets. One person who knows Ellis well is Eric Mangini, who was formerly the coach of the Jets while Ellis was a player. Mangini also has history as an assistant with the Patriots before he was with the Jets.
Because of this reputation, Mangini has the authority to speak about how well Ellis would fit in New England. He did just that recently, calling him a good fit for the Patriots, according to ESPN. He went on to say of Ellis, “He has versatility, he even played some outside linebacker for us when we wanted to get really big. We’d stand him up over the tight end and he can kill guys. I don’t know if that’s something Bill [Belichick] will do, but he can do it and do it well. He can drop into coverage; he has that type of athleticism in the base [defense].”
