This week marks the official start of the preseason for the teams in the National Football League. Some of the teams even got the festivities started yesterday, Thursday, August 11. The Chicago Bears, though start their preseason on Saturday by hosting the Buffalo Bills.

Hosting the first game of the season means having the home field, Soldier Field, in tip-top shape. The league has reportedly been in touch with the team to make sure that the field is in good condition after the Bears canceled “Family Fest” practice last week because of poor field conditions. According to ESPN, Soldier Field’s general manager Tim LeFevour, said the team has been in contact with both the league and the Bills. He explained, “And everyone right now understands and knows that the expectation is the field is going to be in good playing condition, as good a playing condition as the field has ever been in at this time of year. It’s going to be fine.”

The Bears are poised to make quite an impact on the league this season. Fans will want to be there to cheer on the team both at home and away. Reserve your Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.

Ever since the lockout ended, the Chicago Bears have been working on solidifying their roster. One of the places that has been a point of speculation is the offensive line. The Bears parted ways with longtime center Olin Kreutz, leaving a big hole in the offensive line. Talk was all over as to who would be filling that gap for the Chicago Bears.

After much work, the Bears have decided that right guard Roberto Garza will be the new center. That means that a new addition to the Bears, former Seattle center Chris Spencer, will be a backup for now. According to NFL.com, offensive line coach Mike Tice explained his choices, “I have five guys in there starting. Unless they falter, that’s the five guys that are opening the season against Atlanta. Right now, I’m not seeing those guys falter. What I’m seeing right now is improvement every day.”

Tice went on to say that if he sees a need for a change-up, then the changes will be made further along in the season. The Bears are gearing up for a memorable season. Be there to cheer them on by reserving Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.

Recently, some of the Chicago Bears players, specifically star linebacker Brian Urlacher, had made comments about the natural grass surface at Soldier Field and how artificial turf would be better for everyone. Despite this sentiment, though, it doesn’t look like those in the Bears’ administration will be bowing to the pressure any time soon.

According to NFL.com, the team’s chairman George McCaskey spoke about his decision to keep the natural grass surface at Soldier Field and said, “Our primary concern is player safety. We want to prolong careers. We want our guys to be available on a week-to-week basis. The evaluation is ongoing. Every year we take a look at it. Our considered opinion is that right now the best surface for our team, primarily considering player safety, is a natural-grass field.”

The Bears have done well on the grass surface for years, and it stands as one of the few stadiums that have remained true to natural grass. The team works hard to make the grass ready for every game. The team is gearing up for the season, and fans can be there to cheer them on by reserving Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.

The Chicago Bears’ wide receiver corps aren’t the group that attracts the most praise from NFL analysts, but they have become used to proving detractors wrong. The wide receivers are ready to do just that yet again this season, but this time they will have a new face, wide receiver Roy Williams. Williams adds a new target for quarterback Jay Cutler, and he is also of the taller stature that the Bears were looking for.

Williams seems well aware of his place with the Chicago Bears, and he is quite confident of his contribution this season. According to ESPN, he said, “I know Jay [Cutler] was begging for a big guy. I know I fit the mold of a big guy. I’m not a Brandon Marshall, who is nine-feet tall. But I’m a big guy who can go across the middle, make the catch and try to keep the chains moving.”

His addition wasn’t as well received, reportedly, by another Bears wide receiver, Johnny Knox, who has been a top performer for the Bears. The Bears will be aiming to make quite an impact on the league this year. Be there by reserving Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.

When it comes to historic stadiums in the National Football League, near the top of that list is the Chicago Bears’ home stadium, Soldier Field. One way that Soldier Field has kept its tie to the past is by holding on to its natural grass playing surface. Unfortunately, the unpredictable weather in the Windy City are not kind to a real grass playing surface.

This fact has wreaked havoc on the playing surface for years, and many of the players are calling for the Bears to finally give in and replace the grass with artificial turf. One who holds this opinion is Bears veteran star linebacker Brian Urlacher. According to NFL.com, he explained, “I don’t understand why they don’t have FieldTurf, yet. We’re a fast team. We play fast on FieldTurf. The injury issues aren’t as bad as they used to be (with artificial turf). They’ve gone down a lot in the last few years with the way they made the turf and stuff. So I don’t understand it. Use our speed. You know we can run. Let us go out there and run.”

Other players like Devin Hester and Robbie Gould share his opinion. The change is unlikely to happen this year. Be there to cheer on the team by getting Chicago Bears tickets from StubHub.

Now, the coaches are getting a good idea about how the players fared without scheduled workouts.

According to the Bears’ website, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli talked about his goals in light of the fact that the Bears made it to the NFC Championships last season. He explained, “Our expectations continue to go up because we were one step away. We’ve got to make another step. But before that we’ve got to get back down and just get back down to the basics. These guys are going to know what to do; that’s a given. But what we’ve got to do is make sure we do what we know.”

The Chicago Bears are sure to make quite the impact on the league in 2011. The team has gone through many changes during the last few weeks, and the team will definitely have to work hard in order to merge the new and veteran players.

Right now, the members of the Chicago Bears are currently at training camp getting ready for the upcoming season. This training camp is different than ones in years past, because the various players on the team had to get in shape themselves. The teams couldn’t hold practices leading up to training camp because of a lockout that had the league at a standstill. That lockout has ended, and the players are now together.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the wide receivers have done much to keep in shape during the offseason. Johnny Knox explained his motivation and said, “I just had to get stronger up top. That was my goal during the lockout. When I curl, I curl light for repetition. When it comes to bench or incline, that’s when I do heavy stuff.”

Fellow receiver Devin Hester also put on pounds by working out. The two joined many other Bears during the offseason to train at EFT Sports Performance. It looks like it paid off, because the team members look as in shape as they would have if the lockout hadn’t happened.

The lockout during what should have been off-season practices threw a monkey wrench into every team’s plans for the season. One of the most interesting developments is seeing what various players have done in the meantime to keep in shape. Some haven’t done much, which isn’t exactly what the coaches wanted to see heading into training camp.

For Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz, though, he was taken aback in a good way when it comes to the status of star quarterback Jay Cutler. According to ESPN, Martz said, “I was kind of stunned. He has done an awful lot of work on his own in the offseason. I was kind of giddy to be honest with you because watching him drop right now is textbook, and I didn’t know how we were going to get him there, but he got there himself before he came to work and we couldn’t be more happy with that.”

The Bears have many aspects of their offense that can improve over 2010, and Martz seems to be ready to make all the changes necessary.

One of the biggest moves for the Chicago Bears since the end of the lockout has been the team parting ways with longtime and legendary center Olin Kreutz. The departure was surprising to most, but the Bears closed the gap by adding former Seattle Seahawks center Chris Spencer.

Spencer has been in the league since 2006 and spent his entire career thus far with the Seattle Seahawks. Like Kreutz, Spencer was caught off-guard by the fact that Seattle didn’t want to keep him. According to ESPN, he is ready to make his mark on the Windy City despite anything that happened in Seattle. One aspect of the Bears he is excited about is playing under offensive line coach Mike Tice. He said of Tice, “[Tice is] a really good offensive line coach, and one of the reasons I wanted to sign with the Bears. I think he’s going to be the guy to help get me to the Pro Bowl. I’m excited for him to pull everything out of me and teach me a lot about football, and hopefully get me where I want to be in my career.”

In addition, the Bears also made sure to begin working on contracts with the team’s draft picks. Two of the team’s picks have officially signed four-year deals, with more to follow.

The two that have signed are fifth-round pick Nathan Enderle and sixth-round pick J.T. Thomas. Enderle, a quarterback, hails from Idaho, while Thomas, a linebacker, comes from West Virginia. According to the Bears’ website, Thomas already had his eye on working with the many legends in the Bears’ defense. He said, “More than the contract, I’m just excited to get back to football, to see some helmets and some shoulder pads. It was good that we got the deal done. I was anxious to get it signed and get that stuff out of the way so I can concentrate on the things I need to do here at camp.”
