Now that the Carolina Panthers have a new head coach in former San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, the process has begun to find the staff to accompany him throughout next season. Rivera has wasted no time in getting the interviewing process started, and the Charlotte Observer reported today that several interviews have been set up with some of John Fox’s assistants.
According to the Observer, Rivera met with at least three of Fox’s assistants this week, including offensive line coach Dave Magazu, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert and defensive quality control coach Sam Mills III. A large chunk of Fox’s staff is expected not to return next season, and perhaps the winds of change in Carolina are exactly what the team needs to shirk the negativity in Charlotte following a losing season.
Rivera appears poised to fill his staff quickly, and he might do so with the help of another colleague with the Chargers: Rob Chudzinski. The Chargers assistant head coach/tight ends coach has gained permission to interview with the Panthers this week.
Stay tuned as Ron Rivera makes his first decisions as head coach of the Carolina Panthers.
