Now that John Fox is making new beginnings in Denver, the Carolina Panthers certainly haven’t wasted much time in wiping out his empire in Charlotte. New head coach Ron Rivera immediately took action in hiring new coaches after he was named coach of the struggling Panthers, and this week he’s hired a few new leaders from around the league.
Rivera began filling his staff with the hiring of Sean McDermott, who will serve as the new defensive coordinator for the Panthers. McDermott was released from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week, quickly snapped up by the Panthers. The addition of McDermott means that the team’s former defensive coordinator Ron Meeks will be demoted to secondary coach.
The Panthers also hired Rob Chudzinski as offensive coordinator. Rivera brought Chudzinski with him from San Diego, where he was the Chargers’ tight ends/assistant head coach and worked alongside Rivera on the field.
The last coaching change announced this week is the addition of Brian Murphy as special teams coordinator. He was last in action with the Minnesota Vikings and will now help turn around a struggling Panthers team.
