Nittany Lions to Test Two QBs

In a gut-wrenching 2010 season, the Nittany Lions of Penn State had all kinds of issues at quarterback.  While Rob Bolden got the nod at the beginning of the season, he struggled to limit turnovers while throwing the ball down the field.  Eventually, Bolden got injured and Matt McGloin stepped in to guide the Lions down the stretch.  Though Bolden has plenty of potential, the more experienced McGloin proved to have a firmer grip on the offense, helping to improve the passing game in the second half of the season.  Now it seems that both quarterbacks will have a shot at snagging the starting gig for this upcoming season.

Legendary head coach Joe Paterno recently told ESPN that he liked the situation he was in this year, as now he knows that he’ll have to guys with starting experience.  Though talent is a must in college and professional sports, particularly at the quarterback position, gaining real experience is often very hard as coaches try to balance long-term success versus the demands of winning now.  Now it seems that the Lions’ quarterbacks will be able to show if they have grown due to their opportunity to start games last season.  Spring practice is set to start this Saturday and will feature both signal callers showing off their progression from last year, with the Nittany Lion faithful watching eagerly from the sidelines for a sneak peek at how their offense might look this year.
