Though LSU continues to have one of the best programs in the country under Les Miles, they haven’t exactly been lighting up secondaries recently. That’s a challenge that offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe isn’t shy about addressing. The new offensive coordinator will be looking at three different quarterbacks (Jordan Jefferson, Jarrett Lee and Zach Mettenberger) this spring. Kragthorpe recently said that he believes all three guys are talented and committed, but that clearly he’s looking for one to separate himself from the rest of the pack sometime before the start of the season.
Even while the Tigers continue to win plenty of games, their passing hasn’t been doing them many favors. Last year, the Tigers didn’t even place in the top 100 in passing offense in the country, something that really held them back from potentially making a run at an SEC title. Still, the Tigers have plenty of surrounding talent and whoever steps up should be moving into a pretty good situation. Though you might be able to get away with one-dimensional play in another conference, the defenses are simply too complete and dominating in the SEC for one offensive to work for the Tigers. Kragthorpe’s challenge begins this upcoming Friday during the first day of spring practice.
