Power Rankings

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the number one team in this week’s ESPN NCAA Basketball Power Rankings.  “The Buckeyes handled their newfound fame atop the polls with aplomb … but that was against Penn State and Iowa,” it said on ESPN.com.  ”Now Ohio State finally starts to feast on the meat of the Big Ten schedule, with a game at Illinois and then home versus Purdue.  This week OSU will truly earn its ranking.”  Ohio State wasn’t a consensus number one this week, as Kansas received two of the 16 votes.  Their big win over Baylor did a lot of their reputation this season.

Former number one Duke comes in at number four.  Blue Devils fans were gasping in horror early against Virginia when Duke trailed by 10,” it says in the rankings.  ”Then they were exhaling in relief when the Devils’ 43-18 run put the Cavaliers to bed.  Yes, Duke’s mortality is showing.  But in a well-below-average ACC, the Devils continue to coast.”  Duke will be a different team if they can get freshman sensat9ion Kyrie Irving back from injury.  Irving was playing out of his mind before going down.  The Syracuse Orange dropped from third to fifth thanks to their loss to Pitt.
