Jimmer Fredette was on fire last night; there’s no other way to put it. The BYU senior guard led his team to a 104-79 win over Utah last night by scoring a season-high 47 points in the contest. Fredette flirted with going to the NBA after his junior season, a season in which he led the Cougars to the NCAA tournament. However, his decision to return looks like a smart one right now, as BYU is currently the 10th-ranked team in the nation. Fredette hit 16 of his 38 shot attempts and nailed six of nine from distance.
Teammates know to feed Jimmer the rock when he gets hot. “When he starts to shoot from 40 feet out you know he’s feeling something,” Cougars teammate Jackson Emery said of Fredette after the game. “You kind of wanted to keep giving him the ball.” Fredette knew he was going to have a good game early on. “I just felt good right from the beginning,” he told the media. “I felt like I was able to use the screen effectively and get into the lane and make some shots. Then the basket got a little bigger, especially in that first half. It was just one of those special nights that you have, that our team had, something we’ll never forget.”
