Arizona Provides Excitement with Last-Second Win over Texas

The 2011 NCAA Tournament couldn’t have gotten off to a hotter start. Several games in the opening rounds of NCAA action went into overtime and came down to the buzzer last week and weekend, and one of the most thrilling games of the entire season occurred Sunday evening when the Arizona Wildcats danced into the Sweet 16 with a one-point win over the Texas Longhorns.

The Wildcats came away with a 70-69 win over the Longhorns in the final seconds of Sunday’s third-round game, given a chance to top the Texas team when Texas’ Cory Joseph was called for a five-second violation with time winding down. Derrick Williams then completed a three-point play with less than 10 seconds left in the game to give the Wildcats a 70-69 advantage over Texas, and the red-hot Arizona team now moves on to the Sweet 16, where they’ll face No. 1 Duke in Anaheim later this week.

After Sunday’s big game, Arizona coach Sean Miller spoke with ESPN, saying, “I can’t tell you how excited we are to be moving onto the Sweet 16. It’s one thing to be a part of this tournament, but when you have the experience of advancing, it’s second-to-none as a college basketball program, players, coaches.”
