Howard, Magic Dominate Heat
February 9, 2012Coming off of a nice win last night, the Miami Heat were off on Wednesday, as Dwight Howard took over inside and put away the Heat fairly early. Howard ended up with 25 points and 24 rebounds to go along with four assists and two blocked shots, giving him one of his best overall games of the season. While trade rumors continue to fly around the league with Howard at the center, he once again showed to the fans in Orlando that he’s capable of dominating great teams like the Heat, a team that is probably the favorite to come out of the East once again this season.

Magic Rebound in Game 2
April 20, 2011Dwight Howard is a man possessed this postseason. Howard posted his second consecutive monster game last night, this time in a win over the Atlanta Hawks. After posting a huge stat line in a losing effort in Game 1, Howard dropped 33 and 19 last night to even the series at one apiece. The Magic also tightened things up defensively. When asked about any adjustments made after Game 1, Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy gave his players the credit. “It’s not anything I did — our guys did it,” Van Gundy told reporters after Game 2. ”You gotta get out and take the challenge. … Every game sort of takes on a life of its own and you just gotta do whatever it takes to get the win on that night.”

Hollinger’s MVP is Dwight Howard
April 11, 2011ESPN’s John Hollinger has made his selections for the NBA’s awards. Hollinger uses advanced metrics, and they weigh heavily into his decision, which is probably why MVP favorite Derrick Rose came in at fourth on Hollinger’s list for the award. For Hollinger, Orlando center Dwight Howard is the league’s Most Valuable Player. “The three Florida stars — Howard, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade — were the league’s three best in the league by a fair margin, whether you want to use numbers, the much-beloved eye test or any other standard,” Hollinger writes.

NBA Awards Watch
April 6, 2011ESPN’s Maurice Brooks continues to place Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose at the top of the MVP section of his NBA Awards Watch. “He is on pace to become the youngest most valuable player ever (22 years old) and is currently the only player in the top 10 in scoring and assists in the league,” Brooks writes. Roe looks like the favorite to win the award this season and should lock it up if the Bulls can clinch the top spot in the conference heading into the postseason. Rose could be a player that wins this award multiple times.

Heat Lose Big Lead, Magic Win
March 4, 2011The Heat dominated the first half of last night’s contest with the Orlando Magic, but again failed to close out an opponent and ended up falling by a score of 99-96. The Heat sported a cozy 24-point lead in the third quarter, only to see Orlando go a 40-9 run in a 15 minute period. “Well, that defies explanation,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said of the swing. Jason Richardson was the high man for the Magic, scoring 24 points in the contest. Dwight Howard didn’t dominate offensively, but exploited the Heat’s lack of size with 18 rebounds and five blocks.
