April 26, 2012Though the NBA playoffs will likely be dominated by headlines surrounding some of the premier players in the game, it’s often the next tier of superstars that decides who ends up winning the championship. With the standings just about settled, here’s a look at the other great players that will be looking to make a dent in the postseason.

Eastern Playoffs: Teams to Prove Something
April 21, 2012With the Bulls, the Heat and the Celtics looking like teams that will be very hard outs in the Eastern Conference, the rest of the teams scramble to come up with game plans so they aren’t a grease spot in the first in second rounds. Here’s a look at the teams that have something to prove in the postseason.

Lin Bounces Back
February 29, 2012Many were waiting for Jeremy Lin to finally have a bad game, an inevitability when consistently playing some of the best basketball players in the world on a nightly basis. Well, that finally happened against the Miami Heat heading into the All-Star break, as the size and athleticism of the Heat severely bothered Lin, who was completely shut down in the process. But those thinking that Lin was just a flash in the pan suffered a blow tonight, as Lin had his most complete game of the season and got the Knicks right back on track following the All-Star game. Lin ended up with 19 points, 13 rebounds and just one turnover, giving him a very efficient overall game that the Cavs simply couldn’t keep up with. Also adding in five rebounds, Lin was every bit the multiple threat he has been branded as.

Lin Does it Again
February 15, 2012Just when you probably thought the Jeremy Lin hype couldn’t possibly get any bigger, that’s exactly what ended up happening last night. With Carmelo Anthony back, it was Lin who stepped up and buried a clutch three-pointer with less than a second left in the fourth quarter, hand-delivering a 90-87 win against the Raptors. The win is now the sixth straight for the Knicks, a team suddenly surging up the standings in the Eastern Conference just as they start to get healthy. Lin also wasn’t just clutch in the fourth quarter, as he dropped 27 points and dished out 11 assists, giving him yet another double-double.

Linsanity Begins to Take Hold
February 11, 2012It started as just a little story, a bench player who came in and gave the New York Knicks a burst just when they needed one. Now, just a few games later, that is all changing as the national media has started to embrace Jeremy Lin, the new point guard for the New York Knicks. But just when you think it might just be hype, Lin put together an unbelievable performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, bringing Madison Square Garden to its feet with an energy not felt in a while. Against Kobe Bryant’s Lakers, Lin put up 38 points and seven rebounds, leading the way to a clutch 92-85 win.

Fredette Headed to New York?
June 22, 2011With the draft right around the corner, there is bound to be plenty of speculation as to where all the best players will end up. One team that is definitely looking to build for the near future, with two bona fide superstars heading their roster, is the New York Knicks. As a team that could use a knock-down shooter, it’s not a surprise that Jimmer Fredette visiting New York got people talking. Though not the biggest talent in the draft class for this year, Fredette could be the most popular due to his quirky game and ability to light up the hoop. Fredette was seen coming out of a Manhattan hotel, which was all it took to get the speculation started.

Celtics Complete Series Sweep
April 25, 2011Even with a gutty performance by Amare Stoudemire, despite dealing with back spasms, the Knicks proved to be no match for the Boston Celtics, who closed out the series in four games to move on the second round. The Knicks once again struggled to shoot the ball as Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony went only 15 of 44 from the floor. After getting off to an early deficit, the Knicks did come out on fire in the third quarter, they though couldn’t keep it close in the fourth and ended up losing 101-89.

Knicks in Rough Shape
April 22, 2011Though the series very easily could have gone a different way, the Knicks are down 2-0 to the Boston Celtics and limp back home with two of their best players far from 100%. While Amare Stoudemire deals with back spasms, Chauncey Billups is suffering from a knee injury that has him questionable for tonight’s game. In his first playoff game in New York, Stoudemire is expected to play, though it’s unclear how effective he can be after being a non-factor for much of Game 2. The Knicks will once again need a tremendous effort from Carmelo Anthony, who had his best game as a Knick in Game 2 but still couldn’t get the Knicks over the hump to split the series.

Banged Up Knicks Move Forward
April 21, 2011Though it’s far from over, it’s not looking great for the New York Knicks. With Amare Stoudemire suffering from a strained back muscle and Chauncey Billups struggling with a knee injury, the Knicks will have one more day to rest and then they’re back on the court to face the Celtics, a team that has gutted out two wins against the Knicks in the first two games of the series. But the playoffs aren’t going to slow down because the Knicks are banged up, leaving the Knicks desperate to find a way to stop the bleeding in Friday night’s Game 3 matchup. The Knicks should have Billups on the court, though it’s unclear how effective he’ll be, and it’s also up-in-the-air as to how much – if at all – they’ll be able to use Stoudemire.

Knicks Lose Despite 42 Points by ‘Melo
April 21, 2011For a little while there, the Knicks looked like they were going to pull off a close one that would give them a real chance moving forward, though they ultimately fell just short. In a class game with just seconds left, Kevin Garnett hit a baby hook to give the Celtics a one point lead and ultimately the win. With the loss, the Knicks now fall down 0-2 in the best-of-seven series as the series comes to New York starting on Friday. Like the Indiana Pacers, the Knicks had two good cracks at making a dent against a high seed in the East, though both teams are down two games and scrambling to turn it around.
