Injuries are a reality that every team in the NBA must face. Sprains, strains, tears and more are just a part of the game. What few teams plan on, though, is one of their team members getting chicken pox. That is exactly what happened to Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Blake, who was out of practice for a week to recover from what is normally a childhood illness.
According to ESPN, Blake said of how he contracted chicken pox, “I have no idea. It’s not like I went up to someone and shook someone’s hands that had spots all over them. You just don’t know how you get something like this. Who expects to get something like that during the season? It’s just shocking. But you live with it and you move past it.”
Comments from coach Phil Jackson make it seem like the team will expect Blake to be a top contributor right away. The Lakers need all of their talent as they go up against the New Orleans Hornets for Game 2 of the series, down 1-0 right now.
