  • Peavy Surprise Top Pitcher in April
    April 28, 2012

Here’s a look at the top five fantasy starting pitchers as we come close to the end of the first month.

    1.  Jake Peavy:

Who saw this one coming?  Though Peavy obviously was a former stud, many assumed that his career was headed downhill, mainly because that’s what the stats have been saying for a while.  But Peavy has been unbelievable so far this year, with a 1.88 ERA and 3-0 record in his first four starts.  So far, Peavy looks like the steal of the draft.

  • Other Elite Outfield Fantasy Options
    March 21, 2012

Here’s a look at the other outfielders who can help you produce following Ryan Braun, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Kemp, Jose Bautista and Curtis Granderson.

    6.  Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates:

The downside for McCutchen is that he plays in Pittsburgh, but he also has free range to stay very aggressive on the base paths.  With 30-stolen base potential and some real pop in his bat, McCutchen is a fun player who looks to be on the rise.

  • The N.L. Central Has a New Look
    February 15, 2012

As we near the start of the MLB season, no division looks more interesting than the suddenly wide open N.L. Central.  Though the St. Louis Cardinals just won their second recent World Series, they’re far from automatic favorites in the division, even with Adam Wainwright hopefully returning to the top of their rotation.  With Albert Pujols leaving for the West Coast, the Cardinals could struggle to score runs this season, even with Lance Berkman and a healthy Matt Holiday.  Similarly, the Brewers lost their slugging first baseman Prince Fielder, leaving a hole in their lineup behind Ryan Braun.  However, even though the Brewers and Cardinals both lost significant pieces this offseason, they still have some major talent on the pitching mound and enough bats to make them a very strong team in the N.L. Central.

  • Now What for the Champs?
    February 3, 2012

The St. Louis Cardinals finished off a miraculous run last season, capping a  memorable World Series with some of the most intense games in the Fall Classic in recent memory.  But though the Cardinals went the distance and got their second World Series in the Albert Pujols era, the era soon closed when The Machine left for the West Coast and signed with the Angels.  The question now remains: where do the Cardinals go now?  For sure, the Cardinals have dealt with losing big players before, though no one the status of Pujols, arguably the game’s best player still to this day.  Can the Cardinals get back in the mix this year?

  • World Series is Turning into a Classic
    October 26, 2011

A matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers isn’t what most baseball fans had in mind this year, as many were expecting the Yankees or Red Sox to be playing the Phillies when it came down to the Fall Classic.  Well, the St. Louis Cardinals had a different plan and now find themselves coming home with a chance to get back in the series, though it won’t be easy down 3-2 to the equally as surprising Texas Rangers.  In one of the closest World Series’ in memory, two very hot teams have clashed and we’ve seen plenty of late-inning drama.

  • Pujols, Cardinals Explode Against Brewers
    October 10, 2011

With the Cardinals down 1-0, they turned to the guy often referred to as The Machine.  Albert Pujols came out of the gate swinging exactly when the Cardinals needed him the most, as the soon-to-be free agent went four-for-five with a homer and five RBIs.  With the extra shot in the arm in the heart of the lineup, the rest of the bats came around as well, as Jon Jay had three big hits and helped to set the stage for Pujols and company.  David Freese belted another home run, as he continues to announce his talents to the rest of the baseball community that didn’t know much – or anything at all – about Freese heading into the playoffs.

  • Cards Dump Lee, Phillies
    October 3, 2011

With a one game lead in the NLDS and Cliff Lee on the mound, it looked like the Philadelphia Phillies were ready to take a strangle hold of the series, though the St. Louis Cardinals had other plans.  The Cards stormed back from a 4-0 deficit for a 5-4 win, evening the series and making Phillies fans chew their fingernails in the process.  Not surprisingly, it was Albert Pujols who delivered the big hit in the seventh, propelling the Cards to the lead and eventually the win.  Now, the Cardinals get to go home after taking home-field advantage from away from the Phillies, making it a series that is very much up-for-grabs at this point.

  • Ortiz, Berkman Are Surprise All-Stars
    July 11, 2011

Heading into the year, not many would have believed you that both David Ortiz and Lance Berkman would end up as All-Star starters this season.  But, as baseball tends to be, 2011 is proving to be just as predictable as usual.  Though Ortiz has been considered on the decline the last couple of seasons, he’s back and having nothing short of a great season backing up Adrian Gonzalez, the prized new addition to the Red Sox’s lineup.  Ortiz is hitting .304 with a .391 on-base percentage, 19 homers and 55 RBIs, making him one of the most productive left-handed hitters in the entire game this season.

  • Pujols Lands on DL
    June 20, 2011

Up until this point, Albert Pujols has been all but indestructible.  Though Pujols is widely considered the best overall player in the game, he also has been one of the game’s most durable in his career.  That health streak was snapped on Sunday, however, as the future Hall-of-Famer broke his forearm, which will likely keep him out for 4-6 weeks.  Pujols even hit a homer in the game and went three for three, bringing his average up to .279 on the season.  Even if Pujols got off to a rough start, he’s been really coming on strong over the last couple of months, pushing his run production back into the range we’re used to seeing.

  • Pujols Caps Monster Weekend
    June 6, 2011

Though Albert Pujols isn’t having a great season according to his own standards, he’s still capable of putting on a show that few others can even dream of.  On Sunday against the Cubs, Pujols hit a walk-off homer for the second straight night, giving him four homers for the weekend and pushing his total to 13 on the season.  Pujols has now upped his season batting average to .278 and he continues to get stronger as the season wears on.  In a season that could potentially be his last in St. Louis, Pujols got off to a dreadful start but still is among the leaders in the National League in terms of run production.
