Picking the Right Fantasy Catcher
March 19, 2012Even if picking your catcher isn’t always the most exciting pick in your draft, there are always a few studs that can really help your team’s production. Here’s a look at the top fantasy options for catcher heading into the 2012 season.

Thome Belts 600th
August 16, 2011Though he’s seldom talked about with the great sluggers, from Ken Griffey Jr. and Willie Mays to Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth, people will be forced to mention Jim Thome as one of the great home run hitters to ever play the game. On Monday, Thome smacked his 600th career homer, bringing him into rare company that includes just seven other legendary major league baseball players. In many ways, Thome has always been overshadowed by other players on his team, whether it was Manny Ramirez in Cleveland or Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins in Philly, though he’s still continued to mash from season to season, enough to bring him to a plateau that few have even approached.

Bautista On Fire as Jays Top Twins
May 16, 2011I think it’s pretty safe to say that Jose Bautista’s breakout 2010 season in which he slugged 54 home runs was not a fluke season. Bautista made some major swing modifications last offseason and has been mashing ever since. The Toronto slugger knocked three dingers yesterday to help down the Minnesota Twins, bringing his 2011 total to 16. Bautista hit five in the three-game sweep of the Twinkies. “It’s ridiculous, it feels like a dream right now,” Bautista told reporters yesterday. ”Sometimes I can’t really believe it myself, but I keep seeing the good pitches.”

2011 MLB Milestones
April 7, 2011ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick writes about some milestones that could be hit this Major League Baseball season. Derek Jeter is off to a rough start to the season, but he’s all but assured to reach 3,000 hits in 2011. “Jeter is about to do something Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle failed to achieve, while playing for the franchise with the most titles, highest payroll and largest tweeting contingent in the game,” Crasnick writes. “Yes, his 3,000th career hit will be a gigantic media event.” It’s hard to believe that Jeter will be the first Yankee to reach the 3,000-hit mark.

Morneau Key to Twins’ Season?
March 8, 2011Justin Morneau could be the key to the Minnesota Twins’ season. The team won the American League Central title in 2010 without their first baseman, but the ultimate goal still has eluded this team as of late, despite their consistency. The Twins got good news yesterday when Morneau, coming off post-concussion syndrome, stepped up to the plate in a “B” game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Morneau hit a three-run double in the game, which is a very good sign for his 2011 prospects. We’ve seen players retire from post-concussion syndrome, so this is a very serious issue.
