Other Elite Outfield Fantasy Options
March 21, 2012Here’s a look at the other outfielders who can help you produce following Ryan Braun, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Kemp, Jose Bautista and Curtis Granderson.
6. Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates:
The downside for McCutchen is that he plays in Pittsburgh, but he also has free range to stay very aggressive on the base paths. With 30-stolen base potential and some real pop in his bat, McCutchen is a fun player who looks to be on the rise.

Tulo Looks Like Top Shortstop
March 18, 2012The days of the mashing shortstops seems to be over, though there are still some great hitters that can help your team win this season. Here’s a look at the top shortstops heading into the start of the 2012 regular season.

Fantasy Spotlight: Troy Tulowitzki
August 4, 2011Though many were anticipating a big year from Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, it’s another thing to see it actually come to fruition. Tulo has been on a tear for much of the season this year, establishing himself as one of the elite players in the game in the process. Many got a sneak preview of his potential dominance last year when he came off the D.L. to put up an absolutely enormous end of the season run, though his numbers were cut short due to his earlier injury. This year, though, Tulo has been a monster, with a .291 average, 21 homers and 75 RBIs in the heart of the Rockies’ order this season. In the new era of few power-hitting middle-infielders, Tulo’s numbers look even better and he’s been far outperforming most of his peers this year.

Old Names Putting Up Big Numbers
June 15, 2011Todd Helton, David Ortiz and Paul Konerko. Though those are three names that formally scared pitchers, most thought those days were long behind. Apparently all three had enough, however, and have put together great seasons in the twilight of their careers. David Ortiz in particular is putting together a great season, as the former superstar is hitting .321 with 17 homers and 43 RBIs so far this season – numbers that few thought he was capable of at this point in his season. Though there’s no guarantee that he’ll finish the season this strong, it’s hard not to be impressed with Ortiz, especially considering that the focus was on the other stars in the Red Sox lineup this season.

MLB Power Rankings
May 9, 2011The Philadelphia Phillies are again the top team in ESPN’s MLB Power Rankings. The Phils have not been totally dominant, but their pitching has carried them in many cases. Ball Baer of Crashburn Alley notes their offensive struggles. “The offense continues to be inconsistent, scoring a meager five runs in three games against the Braves,” Baer writes. “With Carlos Ruiz on the shelf, the bottom-third of the lineup is a veritable black hole.” Cole Hamels has been especially effective on the mound for the Phillies this season, save for one rough outing to begin the year. The addition of a cutter to his repertoire has been a big difference-maker.

MLB Power Rankings
May 4, 2011The Philadelphia Phillies retained the top spot in this week’s ESPN MLB Power Rankings. “Roy Halladay has allowed only one home run in 46.1 innings,” ESPN.com notes. “He also threw an amazing 18 straight strikes to begin his last start, a complete-game, 2-1 win over the Mets on Saturday.” The Phillies are 18-9 on the season and have the best rotation in the major leagues. Halladay has been as good as expected, while Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels might even be exceeding their own respective expectations. Cliff Lee has been hit hard at times, but he’s going to come around, and it’s not like he’s getting shelled regularly.

Lincecum Fans 10 in Win Over Rockies
April 19, 2011Tim Lincecum had a sub-par 2010 season by his standards, but it looks like he’ll be back in the hunt for a third Cy Young award in his young career in 2011. Big Time Timmy Jim baffled the Rockies last night, going 7.2 innings, much of which was a no-hit bid, and fanning 10 batters along the way. Lincecum didn’t give up a hit until Carlos Gonzalez singled off him in the 7th. Lincecum’s teammates were well aware of the no-hit bid. Outfielder Pat Burrell, who isn’t the flashiest with the leather, asked manager Bruce Bochy to take him out of the game. “I went in and talked to Bochy and said, ‘Listen, I’d hate to be the guy that doesn’t get to a ball that somebody else might catch,’ ” Burrell told the media following the game.

MLB Power Rankings
April 18, 2011The Colorado Rockies are the new top team in ESPN’s MLB Power Rankings. “Owners of baseball’s best record, the Rockies are being driven by the amazing Troy Tulowitzki, who already has seven homers this year,” it says in the rankings. “Hits like a young Nomar Garciaparra, fields like a young Cal Ripken.” That’s some serious praise for Tulo, but it’s well deserved. He’s looking like the early MVP favorite in the National League. The Texas Rangers fell one spot, dropping to second on the list. The loss of Josh Hamilton is going to hurt, but this club can hit even without their best player.
