  • Old Names Putting Up Big Numbers

    Todd Helton, David Ortiz and Paul Konerko.  Though those are three names that formally scared pitchers, most thought those days were long behind.  Apparently all three had enough, however, and have put together great seasons in the twilight of their careers.  David Ortiz in particular is putting together a great season, as the former superstar is hitting .321 with 17 homers and 43 RBIs so far this season – numbers that few thought he was capable of at this point in his season.  Though there’s no guarantee that he’ll finish the season this strong, it’s hard not to be impressed with Ortiz, especially considering that the focus was on the other stars in the Red Sox lineup this season.

  • Fantasy Baseball: Early Bat Steals

    Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp had a tough season in 2010, but he’s off to a fantastic start in 2011.  Fantasy owners must be thrilled with his seven stolen bases in just 36 at-bats.  Kemp is also hitting a crazy .472 and has driven in six runs thus far.  If he’s finally having his breakout season, fantasy owners will have stolen him for the most past this season.  Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz is having a great start to the season as well, hitting five home runs already.  He’s leading the league in dingers and has driven in 11 run as well.  If he stays healthy, he’ll end up being a huge steal.
