Cabrera, Fister Pull Tigers to 2-1

When the Tigers desperately needed someone to step up, both Miguel Cabrera and Doug Fister answered the call.  Fister went 7 1/3 strong innings, letting up just two earned runs and giving the Tigers a change.  And take charge the Tigers eventually did, as Victor Martinez hit a bit homer and Miguel Cabrera belted a big double early on to give the Tigers a lead, one they would never give up.  Cabrera would help put the game away too, as he crushed a homer in the seventh to all but end the Rangers’ hopes of pushing the series to 3-0.

Austin Jackson also had one of his best games in a while, as he got it all started at the top of the lineup by going three-for-five.  With the win, the Tigers now get a chance to even the series tonight, though they’ll have to have another strong effort from both their pitching staff and their bats.  The Rangers haven’t been held down for very long offensively, however, and the Tigers will need to remain aggressive offensively, even when Justin Verlander gets back on the mound.  With the win on Tuesday night, though, the Tigers proved that they are not going to go quietly this season.
