Red Sox Start Series with Win

The Boston Red Sox appear to be on a hot streak, even on the road. They recently finished up a three-game home series with the New York Yankees, winning two out of three games and taking the lead in the American League East. After being at home for two series, the Red Sox now are on the road for a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins.

The first game of the series took place on Monday, August 9, and the Red Sox won 8-6. The game featured an impressive come-from-behind effort from the Red Sox that was bolstered by a top performance by David Ortiz. The Red Sox scored first in the second inning with a single by Marco Scutaro that sent Ortiz in for the score. From there, the Twins went on a scoring streak and scored three in the second, one in the fourth and another in the fifth, taking a 5-1 lead.

The Red Sox came back starting in the sixth when Adrian Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly that sent C Crawford home. Ortiz then hit a homer that also sent in Dustin Pedroia home. Jarrod Saltalamacchia also had a homer in the sixth, tying the game 5-5. The Red Sox took the lead in the eighth with a run by Ortiz off of a grounder by Mike Aviles. The Twins tied it again at the bottom of the eighth. The win for the Red Sox came in the ninth with a single by Ortiz that sent Darnell McDonald in for the score, and a double by Saltalamacchia that sent Pedroia home.
