The Boston Red Sox couldn’t do anything offensively on Monday, but that changed quickly as the Red Sox crushed the Orioles 14-0 on Tuesday. While Jon Lester pitched a great game, the Red Sox hit the ball all over the yard, bashing out 20 hits and scoring at least two runs in each of the first five innings. David Ortiz and Marco Scutaro were the offensive stars of the night, each mashing four hits and driving in a combined six RBIs. With the big day, Ortiz raised his batting average to .318, completing a great comeback season for Big Papi, who just a few years ago was considered an elite left-handed hitter.
On the other side, Lester iced the Blue Jays, going seven strong innings and striking out 11 batters. With the win, Lester improves to a team-best 15-6, as he continues to have a mostly under-the-radar season. Lester also walked just one Blue Jay, as he came right after them all game long. In all, eight different Red Sox batters had at least one RBI, enough to put together one of the biggest blowouts of the season in Major League Baseball. The Red Sox will look to keep it going tomorrow without falling back to their silent bats from Monday night, as we head deeper into the most crucial month of the regular season.
